Netflix has officially announced the upcoming release of a multi-part documentary series about the legendary rock band KISS. Titled *Shout It Out Loud*, the biopic is set to premiere in 2024 and will delve into the band’s formative years, chronicling their rise from obscurity to global stardom. Directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning, known for his work on *Maleficent: Mistress of Evil* and *Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales*, the film promises an intimate look at the band’s early journey.
The project, first announced in April 2021, is a collaboration between Netflix, Universal Music Group, and Mark Canton’s Atmosphere Entertainment. The script, penned by Ole Sanders with an earlier draft by William Blake Herron (*The Bourne Identity*), focuses on the band’s first four years, highlighting the challenges and triumphs that shaped KISS’s unique identity. Longtime KISS manager Doc McGhee emphasized that the film will explore the social pressures of the 1960s and 70s that influenced the band’s formation and success.
Frontman Paul Stanley has expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Look, you get one chance to do it, and I would rather not do it than do it half-assed or poorly. Our director is the real deal… It should be great.” While the cast has yet to be announced, Stanley mentioned that casting will focus on actors in their early 20s to accurately portray the band’s early days.
*Shout It Out Loud* is currently in pre-production, with filming expected to commence soon. The film will have a theatrical release before becoming available on Netflix, offering fans a comprehensive look at the origins of one of rock’s most iconic bands.
This documentary adds to Netflix’s growing portfolio of music biopics, following the success of films like *The Dirt*, based on the career of Mötley Crüe. With *Shout It Out Loud*, Netflix aims to provide a compelling narrative that captures the essence of KISS’s early years and their impact on the music industry.
Fans eagerly await the release of *Shout It Out Loud*, anticipating a deep dive into the band’s history and the factors that propelled them to fame. As the premiere date approaches, more details about the cast and production are expected to be revealed, building excitement for this tribute to KISS’s enduring legacy.
